Rilke Schule German Charter School

Rilke Schule German School of Arts & Sciences is one of the largest charter schools in Anchorage and is the only German immersion school for kindergarten through 8th grade. This award-winning project included a new 30,500 square foot building, parking and associated drives, utilities, and playground. The project is located on 64th Avenue in Anchorage, Alaska. EEI provided civil site design and planning services. One of the many challenges related to the project was the schedule. The design build team had approximately eight months to design, permit and construct the school to meet the clients schedule to open the school in August 2014.

EEI was part of the team from the very inception of the project. They conducted due diligence research of the site to identify the site challenges and permitting requirements before any design work began. During design, EEI worked closely with the design build team to site the building to not only meet the school’s needs, but to also minimize earthwork requirements and wetland disturbance. The input by EEI on the overall site plan assisted in keeping the project on schedule and budget.
